Kitchen/Family Room Renovation

The good folks at G.A. Chott asked if we had pictures to share of the kitchen and dining room renovation work they did for us in the Spring of 2015. I decided to post them here, in part so that we can remind ourselves of the before and after!

Starting with the family room as it appeared before we moved in – note the unfortunate fan and the brick fireplace Ug!

Here’s a detail of the fireplace; could be worse but it’s appearance is massive and busy:

Here’s the fireplace post-renovation. G. A. Chott removed the mantle, framed out where necessary, and covered the fireplace from floor to ceiling with tile. We found the hearth (black granite, rough texture) at a local stone supplier. The ceiling fan has been replaced by a much improved light fixture.

The fireplace looks particularly good in the evening. It is wood-burning, but we haven’t gotten around to getting a door:

The Kitchen.

Here’s a view looking to the window as the kitchen looked before we moved in:

How things look today from a similar vantage point. We stayed with the basic L-shaped counter, but replaced all the cabinets, the counter-top, the appliances and the wall covering:

What was an cabinet with fixed shelves is now four drawers that glide shut:

And after (the half wall and chair rail are gone); the light fixture is new, and the chairs are Eames shells from Herman Miller:

The folks did a nice job on a complex request: we didn’t want a slide-in range; instead we wanted a cook-top above and a wall oven below, with the stone countertop running continuously. Not easily accomplished, but the result is terrific:

Ryan, our Job Captain from G. A. Chott, did a fantastic job setting the glass tile we selected:

We couldn’t be more pleased!
